Bills of Quantities
At the tender stage of a lump sum, managing contractor or construction management project we strongly recommend the measurement of Bills of Quantities or Trade Package Bills of Quantities for issue to tenderers. The advantages of preparing a Bill of Quantities are as follows:
- Helps eliminate co-ordination errors in the design and documentation as the measurement process often identifies discrepancies.
- Saves the cost and time of several sub-contractors measuring the same design in order to calculate their bids for competition.
- Provides a consistent basis for competitive bids so that the contractor who is the most efficient and least expensive in providing the items of work is likely to be commissioned for the job.
- Provides an open basis for the contract; the client provides an extensive and clear statement of the work he/she requires and the contractor states the price at which he/she is prepared to undertake the job.
- Provides a very strong basis for financial administration of the contract.
Beacon Consulting can also be involved in tendering the specific packages of work to nominated sub-contractors to ensure the Client is achieving best value for money. Additionally Beacon Consulting are experts in negotiating contracts with contractors and sub-contractors alike.
