We have been implementing some new internal workflows with our laser scanner where we are delivering BIM projects. As we attend site each month for Progress Claims and/or site meetings we have decided to take permanent records of works completed via laser scanning on site.
Back in the office we can then compare the point clouds generated by the laser scanner directly against the BIM models in co-ordination and review software such as Navisworks.
Navisworks 2015 includes enhancements to ReCap point cloud integration. Improved control over point cloud data sets, with the option to break your scans down into point subsets for more accurate clash detection (Navisworks Manage only).
Performance improvements, and enhanced display settings, support better point cloud visualization.
Navisworks 2015 also allows us to publish point cloud data to the extended team using Navisworks Freedom. This allows all participants a free platform to review and explore the BIM and point cloud data.
The image below shows the status of the Lae Commercial Centre project in early April 2014, compared with the final BIM model.
The following image shows the alignment of a rear site retaining wall on a creek boundary with the as-built scan on-site. Nice and close which is good.
